Supermarket Belongs to the Community

Supermarket belongs to the community. While Chef has the responsibility to keep it running and be stewards of its functionality, what it does and how it works is driven by the community. The chef/supermarket repository will continue to be where development of the Supermarket application takes place. Come be part of shaping the direction of Supermarket by opening issues and pull requests or by joining us on the Chef Mailing List.

Description Build Status

A simple cookbook for setting up a server to stream logs into Loggly via a secure
TCP connection.

NOTE: The current Loggly cetfificate is broken, so while the connection from rsyslog
uses TLS, it does not verify the peer, which makes it vulnerable to man in the middle attacks.

Requirements

Built to run on systems with Rsyslog installed. Tested on Ubuntu 12.04

Attributes

['loggly']['port'] = The Loggly log destination port number (required)
['loggly']['syslog_selector'] = The syslog tags and types to stream into Loggly (defaults to "*.*")
['loggly']['resume_retry_count'] = The number of times to retry the sending of failed messages (defaults to unlimited)
['loggly']['queue_disk_space'] = The maximum disk space allowed for queues (defaults to 100M)
['loggly']['enable_tls'] = Whether to encrypt all log traffic going into Loggly (defaults to True)

Usage

First, make sure you set the ['loggly']['port'] attribute in your Role/Environment,
to the destination port created in Loggly. Then include the loggly::default recipe
in you run list to start streaming all syslog entries to Loggly.

Tailing log files

This functionality is currently not available, but will be provided via the Opscode Rsyslog cookbook
(included as a dependency), where there is an open pull request for it at the time of this writing.
